Batucada Winter Parade

Wellington Batucada is an inclusive community group that brings the vibrant samba dance and drumming traditions of Brazil to Wellington. Founded in 2001, it emulates the Brazilian tradition of batucada, a style of samba music played by large percussion groups in street parades and carnivals. The group performs various Brazilian rhythms such as samba batucada, afoxé, samba reggae, and samba funk, while also exploring new rhythms and fusions to reflect New Zealand's diverse cultural influences. Wellington Batucada has performed at numerous events and festivals both in New Zealand and internationally.
